May 17, 2009 Sunday Bee Run

Here is your chance to see the beautiful babies as they grow!

I put my camera down in the inside of the hive, and here is what it looks like to them. Can you imagine though that it's dark when they are inside?

Drone comb, male bees are on the left. It looks like little raised balls on the otherwise flat frame. You can see the worker bee cells right next to it.

Another frame showing drone comb.

This is Jim at an outlying yard. The hive that he isn't in currently doesn't have a queen and the temperament really shows you that. They are loud, nervous and pretty darned aggressive. We did find an open queen cell and we hope that things are on the way to being ok.

Here is a close up of new babies, the fur on the backs looks so darned cute doesn't it!

Ok, here is a close up photo of the hive that isn't too happy! When Jim went in they started pinging our suits and quickly flying out of the hive. After a few minutes they settled in on the front of the hive.

First an update on the markets.

Last week sure had it's ups and downs. Tuesday was beautiful at Fallen Timbers. I had never been there before and was amazed to find all the stores and how beautiful it was. Ok, I know I live a sheltered life out here in the country, but still I was floored to find this much so close to me. Met a whole lot of new folks and we had a good time.

On Wed. Westgate left a whole lot to be desired. After missing out on last Thursday at Perrysburg I made a commitment to go no matter what. It was drizzling when I left and as I set up I kept thinking to myself what the heck. I set up anyway and it got worse as the day went on. I ended up taking everything down a few minutes after six and it was pouring by that time. I was wet and very cold when I got home.

On Thursday when I set up at Perrysburg my tables were still full of water but the market on Thursday was great as usual. It is suppose to go until 8:00 but to tell you the truth it winds down around 7:00, not so on this day. We went right up until 8:00 and I got to see a ton of folks from last year as well as all their dogs.

This week I've got a lot going on. Not only do we have the four markets with Flower day being the big one on Saturday but our son Jon is getting married to Emily on Saturday. So what that means is I will be loading up early on Saturday to leave by 1:30. I have got to get home no later than 2:00 so I can get dressed and headed back down to Toledo to the church. I don't think it would be to great to be late to the wedding do you?

Back at Market again!

Just click on the photo's above to see a larger version that you can actually read!

We are adding something new this year to make you all feel like your a bigger part of our bee yard. Each week I'll take photo's of what's going on in the bee yard, and you can follow along with us while we go through what we go through to be able to bring our wonderful products to you. This week, I tagged along behind Jim, (he doesn't take very good photo's) while he checked on how the new hives were doing. We always have a few here and there that seem to need a little more care. So this week we actually have three pages of photo's that we will blow up and bring down to the market. Please stop by and check things out. I think you'd be surprised at just how much goes on out here.
